White-collar jobs will disappear in 5 years.
Yesterday, a shocking claim by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei was that in the next 5 years, white-collar jobs will vanish from the industry.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei gives career advice to students and working professionals to move forward on human-centric skills. That was never replaceable during the WTF podcast with Nikhil Kamath (co-founder of Zerodha) and Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic). After launching the Claude chatbot, billions of dollars were wiped out from the technology market. Cybersecurity and other stocks are crashing by seven to nine percent. students and younger professionals who have become and work in software engineering, as well as in math-heavy fields that are rapidly being replaced by machines.
Amedoi advised students and young professionals to focus their careers on “tasks that involve people.” As coding and technical-related jobs are dominated by AI, he warned last year that half of all white-collar jobs will be gone within the next five years.
In the WTF podcast, when asked about the industries that AI will disrupt and what skills students and young professionals should learn, Amodei said, “I would think about human-centric tasks, tasks that relate to people.” I think stuff like code and software engineering is becoming more and more AI-focused, like things like math and science.
The Anthropic CEO advised 25-year-olds who are trying to choose their profession that white-collar jobs will disappear in 5 years.
Amodoi said to the youth of India who are trying to choose their profession, “He said anything where you are building on AI, and if AI is a tailwind, you can be part of some other supply chain, something in the semiconductor space.” One example is that it has elements of a physical world and more traditional engineering, not software engineering, again, a very human-centric profession
That is something I would think about, and I always say that in a world where AI can generate and create anything, having basic critical thinking skills may be the most important thing for success.
I think about these AI models that generate images and videos in response to a prompt. And we don’t make models that generate images and videos for many reasons. It’s really hard to tell what’s real and what’s not.
So, a significant part of success may be having street smarts—not getting fooled, I mean. Hopefully, we can crack down and regulate some of this fake content.
