Android 17 Beta is Here: “Cinnamon Bun,”New Features and Supported Phones

Google has officially kicked out its operating system with a surprise release of Android 17 beta called “Cinnamon Bun.” This is a major shift for 2026. Google has dumped the developer preview phase and is moving straight to the public beta to speed up the testing cycle. Android 17 isn’t just a minor tweak; it’s a performance-heavy update designed for the high-end hardware of 2026.

Key Features: Whats New in android 17 beta

This year, Android 17 has some key changes, given below:

Cross-Device Continuity

The biggest highlight: Hand-off API. Much like Apple’s ecosystem, Android 17 now allows you to start a task on your phone and instantly pick it up on your tablet or another Android device.

Mandatory Large-Screen Adaptivity

Google is finally getting strict with developers. Apps can no longer “opt out” of orientations, resizability, or large screens. If you use a foldable or a tablet, apps will now scale perfectly without those annoying black bars.

High-end Camera Upgrades

  • Dynamic Camera Sessions: Switch between your ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto lenses seamlessly during recording without the “viewfinder skip” or freezing.
  • VVC Support: Versatile Video Coding (H.266) is now native, allowing for high-quality video at half the file size of HEVC.

Advance Privacy & Security

  • Advanced Protection Mode (AAPM): A new “hardened” mode that blocks app installs from unknown sources and restricts USB data signaling, ideal for users at high risk of cyberattacks.
  • Enhanced VoIP Privacy: You can now see caller avatars in your system dialer for apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, with better control over call log privacy.
